The Surgical Technician is a member of the surgical team and provides assistance to the surgeon and other team members during surgical procedures. The Surgical Technician participates with the surgical team members in planning and implementing complex procedures under the general supervision of the surgeon and registered nurse. Duties include but are not limited to: Possess expertise in theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, implementation tools and technology to facilitate a surgeon's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Function as a primary scrub person responsible for handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during all surgical procedures including but not limited to: urology, plastic and general surgery procedures. Select and prepare instruments, supplies and equipment, and assist operative team according to Operating Room procedures; adhere to principles of strict aseptic technique in preparing set-up for specific procedures according to Operating Room procedures. Prepare, organize, and maintain highly complex sterile surgical set-ups; position patients for specific procedures, perform preoperative skin prep, and provide instruments, supplies and equipment to the operative team according to Operating Room procedures. Report and document pertinent patient and/or supply/equipment information; process, sterilize and distribute instruments and supplies, store supplies and equipment in designated areas, and safety changes and/or store nitrous oxide, nitrogen, and other gases according to Operating Room policy. Observe and respond promptly to each stage of the surgical procedure and anticipate the needs of the surgeon for long period of time; be knowledgeable of a wide variety of complex surgical procedures and possible complications and provide education to others; and utilize knowledge of proper handling of prosthesis during procedures where implantable devices are used. Perform other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Full-Time Employment; Monday thru Friday: 6:30 am to 3:00 pm or 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; weekdays and weekends on call and stay-late required.
