At the Full Performance Level The LPN, GS-6, has the knowledge and skills necessary for concentrated effort and self-direction in carrying out the most complex practical nursing assignments. S/he is assigned to patients who require the use of highly specialized skills, and perceptive judgment and observation, including adult psychiatric, medical, and geriatric patients. This LPN will work in all specialty clinics to include Urology, Podiatry, Surgery, Optometry, and other areas as needed. Major Duties include but are not limited to: Varies the order and sequence of assignments based on patients' conditions. Utilizes the knowledge of physical, social, and emotional factors when planning patient care, and uses this knowledge effectively in day-to-day interactions with patients and families. Recognizes deviations from patient's baseline. Demonstrates ability to respond to patient's immediate and long-term needs. Performs complex treatments and procedures with exceptional skill and knowledge, to include venipuncture as defined in policy. Applies knowledge of Medical Center Policies and Procedures to his/her daily clinical functions and responsibilities. Participates in Interdisciplinary Team meets to develop the patients' care plan goals. Documents patient's responses to interdisciplinary plans for group care, group therapy, patient teaching and planned activities. Performs escort duties based upon the care needs of the Veteran. Assists in the performance of diagnostic procedures and treatments. Setting up and maintaining a sterile field for surgical procedures. Practices and ensures aseptic technique in the preoperative and perioperative settings. Provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of surgical needs.
