In addition to its hospitals, Duke Health has an extensive, geographically dispersed network of outpatient facilities that include primary care offices, urgent care centers, multi-specialty clinics and outpatient surgery centers.
Provide physical therapy services to patie nts/clients who haveimpairments, functional limitations, disabilities, o r changes inphysical function and health status resulting from injury, d isease, orother causes; provide prevention and wellness services, includ ingscreenings and health promotion. The senior serves as a resource pers onforthe team and the department: participates in orientation of newstaf f therapists, physicians and other health personnel. The seniorparticipa tesin teaching activities for physical therapy and otherhealth related s tudents. The physical therapist works within practiceguidelinesas define dby North Carolina state law.
Duties a ndResponsibilities of this Level: See Departmental criteriafor each dut ylisted, and Departmental criteria for clinical ladder.Physical Therapis tDemonstrate & articulate sound clinical reasoning in synthesizingcomple xevaluation data identifying diagnosis and developing acomprehensive pla n of care.Develop and update appropriate plan of care in collaborationwi th thepatient/family and related to the person's age and lifestyle with measurable long and short term goals and a defined D/C planUnderstandthe role of physical therapy in the context of the patient'sage, total needs perspective and environmentPerform age appropriate competency skills in area of practice and withrespect to individual patient's problems.Follo w intervention protocols and alter plan of careappropriately.Dischargepa tient when goals have been met or medical necessity is nolonger warrants intervention.Establish provisions for continuing services/followup as n eeded.Meet competency skills for evaluations in area of practice.Consist ently meet patient care productivity standard as established forjob clas sification.Work cooperatively with supervisors and peers to contribute t o theoverall productivity of the team.Utilize support personnel (aides, sr aides, assistants) as appropriateand available.Actively support and p articipate in patient coverage efforts across alldivisions withinthedepa rtment as necessary.Assess the learning needs and capabilitiesof patient s and caregivers.Initiate patient and family education in a timely manne r relative toage, LOS, readiness to learn, and emotional status.Utilize appropriate methods and materials for effective learning,monitoringrespo nse to education,and adapting program appropriately.Ensure that patient/ family understands when and how to access furtherintervention.Patient ca re documentation is timely, legible, and efficient.Documentation is conc ise, pertinent and meets the professions anddepartments documentation st andards.Oral reporting is clear, concise, relevant, and timely.Perform a ll required data collection for the department accurately andwithin expe cted time frame.Peer review standards are consistently met.Provideclinic al education experiences for students as requested bysupervisor and esta blished by CCCETake 1-2 students for long term clinical rotation(Therapi st of > 1yrexperience).Adjust supervisory techniques for individual stud ent's needs.Provide outreach and learning activities as requested which may include:in-services on related topics, generating referrals,interact ing withvolunteers or visitors.Participate in data collection for resear ch activities to enhanceclinical outcomes.Perform other relatedduties in cidental to the work described herein.

Bachelor's degree or certification in physical therapy, with Master's or ClinicalDoctorate in physical therapy preferred.
None beyond required education, although more experience may be preferred at times.
