Atlantic Health System is seeking a per diem Physician Assistant. One day per week from 8A to 4P for our Bariatric Center. Come join our team!
Essential Functions/Responsibilities of Position:
Surgical PAs assist the physician in the global management of patient care in all peri-operative settings. This end-to-end involvement enables surgical PAs to provide unparalleled continuity of patient care. Surgical PAs handle routine problems and procedures. * In-office Patient Care. o Surgical PAs can perform all manner of patient care in the office setting, as determined by the supervising surgeon. o Sees new office patients and completes a thorough history and physical examination. o Presents the patient to attending surgeons, if needed. o Helps to formulate treatment plans. o Orders appropriate radiographic studies. o Performs office procedures. o Evaluates post-operative patients and does routine follow-up visits. o Is available to see patients requiring same-day office visits. o Returns phone calls of from patients. o Handles prescription refills. o Reviews radiographic reports and laboratory reports for abnormalities. o Evaluates, screens and counsels' patients on health maintenance and promote utilization of community resources. o Designs, conducts and/or participates in research studies. o Manages databases. o Perform quality assurance. * Hospital Care. o 1st assistant in surgery - Performs first assist duties, including ensuring all needed equipment and supplies are present. o Facilitate/improve OR efficiency and facilitates throughput on OR days as needed. o Post-op - Writes orders in the recovery room, talks with family, visits patients, performs post-op procedures and more. o Discharge planning - Dictates discharge summaries, writes prescriptions, explains discharge instructions, confirms follow-up appointments and more. o Conducts daily hospital rounds. o Assists with call. o Renders emergency care. o Write orders and progress notes. o Performs all admission history and physicals. o Write appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic orders, including testing and medications, x-rays, IV fluids, etc. Admission orders (and other orders, as may be required by New Jersey State Law). o Evaluates and clarifies clinical conditions. o Formulates and implements treatment and therapeutic plans for hospitalized patients. o Communicate directly with Attending Physicians and/or the Office staff as needed and act as a liaison between the patients, OMC staff (nursing, social work, PT, etc.), and supporting medical services (hospitalists, ID, Cardiology, residents etc.) in order to facilitate quality timely care. o Work cooperatively with the attending surgeon in the treatment and management of Bariatric & Urological problems consistent with training and education. o Assesses patient medical, physical and psychosocial status by reviewing patient records, taking a complete patient history, performing a physical examination, and recording pertinent patient data under the coordination of the surgeon. o Perform general wound care, incision and drainage and removal of superficial foreign bodies and drain management, changes, removals etc. o Perform dressing changes along with minor surgical procedures as applicable. o Write orders and prescriptions for appropriate medications. o Initiate requests for consultations for problems beyond the scope of bariatrics/urology. o Offer patients postoperative instructions. o Conduct post-surgery rounds. o Insert and remove lines and monitoring devices. o Insert and remove drains. o Regulate the pharmacological needs of the patient. o Remove temporary sutures or skin clips. o Perform other functions typically performed by surgeons under the direction of a surgeon. o Respond to requests by the nursing staff for evaluation and assistance when problems arise. o Work in collaboration with the Nursing staff to ensure excellence in care. o Work in collaboration with the Nurse Educator to provide education to the Nursing staff. o Serves as an educator, mentor, and role model for nursing colleagues, students and others.
Completion of an approved Physician Assistant program required
State of New Jersey licensure requried
Physician Assistant National Certification

Experience in the Operating Room or surgical setting preferred
